Wake Up! Its Arcade Fire!

Arcade Fire
Neon Bible

Might seem a little Cliche, but I first fell in love with this band when I heard them at a U2 (My first love) concert. U2 had used the track "wake up"from their 2004 debut album, "funeral" as their opening song. "Funeral" was the biggest indie album to come out back in 2004 and both critics and indie fans loved it. Flash forward 2 years, their sophomore album hits the record store with much anticipation and expectation. "Neon Bible" had big shoes to fill.

When I first listened to the album, it definitely strike me as one of those albums that will grow on you in due time. From the opening track "Black Mirror" which sweeps through the stereo like an atomic bomb had just been detonated, to the closing of "My body is a cage", Arcade Fire takes you on a musical journey that is both dark and romantic. There are definitely the more catchy and radio friendly tunes like "Keep the Car Running", "Intervention" and "(AntiChrist Television Blues)
but one of the best tracks on the album for me, would have to be " No Cars Go". This track first appeared in their first EP, a raw and much less produced version. It has a great build up and one of the best climaxes in a song which I haven't heard in songs for a long time. I believe this would be their "Streets have no name" in the future, a staple, uplifting experience that just takes off at live performances.

Essentially, this is an album where the sum is greater than its parts. Although the few potential singles are strong, the album shines to a different level when it is listened as a whole. The song sequence is great but it would have been perfect if it ended with "No Cars Go".
